#1 Socialism is anti-people
Answer: Yes and No! Here’s how:
People will select a government under a socialist democracy. So … logically speaking, I am sure you’ll agree with me here, that a party selected by the people to come in power for a certain period of time should be the most powerful in the country.
And the most powerful can be both good or bad. For now, it however is painted bad by the currently dominant system of government in the world, capitalism, because in socialist countries, there’s no sense of Private Land Ownership. That’s justified because after all, what’s the use of being strong if you can’t muscle it huh (or that’s what capitalist had made us believe). Here’s why there’s no sense of private land ownership in socialist system:
Currently, you earn and you can buy a villa wherever you want, except in Army Cantts (which btw only in Pakistan are located right in the centre of cities to increase the value of their commercial land). You can buy anything with money right now. That’s what socialism looks to change, the importance of money. If in a socialist government too, you can buy anything with that money, if in a socialist government too, money is the most valuable thing, then what even is the point of all this years of evolution and struggle? So in a socialist system, you are free to earn as much as you can but the natural resources (land, lakes, islands, oil, gas, minerals) can’t be in a(ny) single person’s control. It is the law. Like the mountains of Chaghi now can’t be owned by any person in Pakistan, like the untouchable golf courses and sailing clubs of Pakistan Army Officers, under a socialist state, nobody owns any land of their own by law. It is owned by the democratically elected government (like the cantonment boards in cantts) and housing is made on it by the government and given to people to live in (like the flats, bungalows, and houses given by army to its different ranked officers in cants). If you see the whole cycle of people electing a government, who then controls all the natural resources of the country for a limited period of time, it’s then the people at the very end voting to control their own resources.
Socialism is not thus anti-people. Those who spread this propaganda have made humans the slaves of other humans, have 24 hours of electricity and water and gas and petrol and V8s and Land-Cruisers and Vigos. Socialism is for the worker, me and you, oppressed by the formerly mentioned class. We don’t seek their approval and we shall bring peace and stability to their homes too.
Socialism is against people who make fortunes committing crimes. It is pro-working class.
#2 Socialism will destroy business by removing competition.
Answer: Untrue. Here what the great leader of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah said in Response to the Chairman’s Address at the 88th Annual General Meeting of the “Karachi Chamber of Commerce” in 1948:
“The number of industries the Government has reserved for management by themselves consists of Arms and Munitions of War, Generation of Hydel Power and Manufacture of Railway Wagons, Telephones, Telegraph and Wireless Apparatus. All other industrial activity is left open to private enterprise which would be given every facility a Government can give for the establishment and development of industry.”
Now pray someone tell me how this statement is Anti-Business? You run a cloth factory? Sure! Keep it up and more power to you! You are an entrepreneur providing people with your services? Okay, may you prosper buddy! Freelancer. WholeSaler? Doctor with your own clinic? Web-Dev? Influencer? Owner of a transportation company? Owner of a construction company? Flour mill? Sugar Factory? OKAY! KEEP THEM RUNNING BECAUSE SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT EATS AND DRINKS AND TRAVELS AND STAYS IN CONSTRUCTED HOMES TOO! WE NEED YOU JUST AS MUCH MATE!!!
The problem is, we say no “one” controls natural resources. No one single person or family shall be allowed to have monopoly on items needed by the masses. This includes Fuel, Mass Transport System (Railway), Ammunition, Water bodies, Coal and Oil and Gas and mines. No one out of the government controls these things and if you want to, there’s no one stopping you from creating a party. Make people agree to your view and come into the government. Then, with the people’s mandate backing you, do whatever you promised to the people in your election campaigns. United Pakistan, the political party I am a part of, agrees to this. We want to run the country as Quaid-e-Azam said. You can access the full speech here btw. And this is not an approved promotion of the party, might have to take it down later.
#3. Socialist government is powerful and thus, it can monopolise itself over the people.
Answer: The part before the comma is true, the one after the comma is not.
Let’s take a different approach this time, shall we? Living under capitalism with mass-beneficial companies and natural resources (lands, lakes and mountains) in the hands of few, is this not monopoly of some families over all other families in Pakistan? Are Nawaz, Shahbaz, Hamza, Maryam, Bilawal, Asif, Fazlu, Rasheed, Pevez, Imran not monopolists? Each of these people are either owners of corporations or have beneficial links with people who own natural resources or companies that make and monopolize products needed by the masses. Themselves and the relatives and friends of Aleem Khan, Mian Mansha, Ishaq Dar, Malik Riaz and Asim Bajwa own money and use it to impact the policies of Pakistan so the working class keeps working for them and their children. It is the crony capitalist who HAS monopolized himself above the working class. They are powerful. They are controlling the government via the parliament. Socialists just want the power of government given by the people, to stay within the government itself and not be bought with money. If this is considered “too powerful” by a handful of elites who will no longer be able to shape policies and buy parliaments, then let it be said so. They are not working class. They don’t experience our problems. Why should we accept their solutions?
At the end, here’s what a working class person/family is:
Working class family doesn’t own any servants, part time, contract based or full time. Their family does everything in the house.
Working class doesn’t own a 4-tired vehicle. They can’t afford to buy and maintain one.
Working class doesn’t own any replacement means of energy production (gas cylinders, electric generators or solar electricity systems). They can’t afford to buy and maintain these.
Have a nice, conscious day!
