Countless restaurants in Islamabad have their own special take on the conventional roll paratha. Many different adaptations of the Roll paratha have stemmed from the original blueprint, such as the westernized incorporation of pizza rolls to make pizza paratha rolls. With these different variations stemming away from the spools of plain chicken paratha people know and love, Gulshan Roll Inn claims to revert to the simplicity of the Roll paratha while maintaining people’s excitement.

Gulshan Roll Inn serves as a budgetary food spot that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. With that being said, the restaurant only served roll parathas at 11 am with no other food options on the menu for selective customers to choose from. The lack of diversity on the menu led to ordering the Garlic-Mayo Boom Boom Roll Paratha, a chicken roll paratha loaded with vegetables, chutney and cheese. The paratha, priced at rupees 300, was freshly made out of flour dough, giving the item a flavorful chewiness with each bite. The chicken was generously added and marinated with a rich barbeque flavour that was cut by the freshness of the lemon zest. The vegetables were perfectly balanced and did not outshine the main elements of the item. It simply lived to serve a foundational purpose upon which the tanginess of the tender chicken could thrive. The same could not be said about the chutney on the other hand. The minty freshness of the chutney failed to shine through to provide an extra dimension to the roll. The temperature of the chutney was cold to the touch which dampens the overall potential of an otherwise impressive roll paratha.

The notorious Garlic-Mayo Boom Boom Roll Paratha at Gulshan Roll Inn

Located in F-10 Markaz, the restaurant is not the prettiest sight to see and leaves a negative impression on its overall quality for potential customers. The interior of the restaurant did not have enough seating and whatever dining spots it did have were non-hygienic in nature. The tables were greasy and lacked proper cleanliness, making the entire experience unappetizing, to say the least.

While the prices of the food items are cheaper in comparison to restaurants such as Boom Boom Roll & BBQ located in F-11 Markaz and What a Paratha in Jinnah Super, the lack of hygiene serves as ample motivation to scour for other options to fulfil your roll paratha needs. All in all, Gulshan Roll Inn receives a generous 3 out of 5 stars in both flavour and serving.
